Money and time

What it costs.
How long it takes.

We are not going to publish a single headline number, because there is not one. What we can do is show you every line you will have to fund, and tell you which ones people consistently underestimate.

The cost lines

Everything you will have to pay for.

Grouped into establishment cost, capital deployed and running cost. Amounts vary enormously by city, model and vehicle choice, so we show the structure rather than invented figures.

LineGroup What drives the number
Company formationEstablishment State or Companies House fees, registered agent or office, constitutional documents
Professional feesEstablishment Attorney or solicitor, accountant, and any specialist advice the model needs
Licences & permitsEstablishment Model-dependent. None to substantial. Model C is the expensive end
Insurance deposit & first premiumEstablishment City, vehicle type, driver profile, cover limits. The single most volatile line
Technology licencesEstablishment Fleet or rental management, telematics, dispatch platform where required
Brand & digitalEstablishment Identity, website, listings, booking channel, phone number provisioning
RecruitmentEstablishment Sourcing and screening the local contact and any operational staff
Akontec setup feeEstablishment Percentage of the above, with a stated minimum
VehiclesCapital Count, age, class. Expect cash purchase — local finance needs credit history
Premises depositCapital Parking, yard or depot where the model needs it
Working capitalCapital Months of running cost before collections stabilise. Largest in Model B
Insurance (ongoing)Running Scales with vehicle count, not vehicle value. Usually the biggest running line
Local staffRunning At minimum a fleet contact who can physically attend to vehicles and incidents
Maintenance reserveRunning Set per vehicle per month. Under-reserving is the most common planning error
Akontec management feeRunning Flat monthly, scoped to vehicles or accounts and hours of coverage
Accounting & complianceRunning Annual filings, tax returns, statutory obligations in both jurisdictions
The four surprises

What people consistently get wrong.

In roughly this order of how often it derails a plan.

Surprise 01

Insurance is bigger than you think

Commercial for-hire cover in some US metros can approach a meaningful fraction of the vehicle's value annually. It scales with vehicle count, not vehicle price, so buying cheaper cars raises the insurance-to-revenue ratio rather than lowering it. We obtain indicative quotes before you buy anything.

Surprise 02

You will probably buy the cars for cash

Standard consumer leases exclude commercial and for-hire use. Commercial fleet finance requires local business credit history that a newly formed foreign-owned entity does not have. Expect large deposits, personal guarantees, or outright purchase.

Surprise 03

Banking takes longer than everything else

A foreign-owned entity with no local trading history is a hard application. It is frequently approved when prepared properly, and it is never guaranteed. Plan the timeline assuming it is the long pole, because it usually is.

Surprise 04

Somebody has to be there

Keys change hands, vehicles get inspected, accidents happen. That cost is a real line in the plan from month one, not something to add later when it becomes obvious. A plan without it is not a plan.

On the annual US filing trap

A foreign-owned single-member US LLC has an annual federal information filing obligation that applies even with no tax payable and no trading activity, and the penalty for missing it is substantial per year. Every venture we set up leaves you with a written compliance calendar. If you set up elsewhere, ask whoever does it about this specifically.

Timelines

How long, realistically.

Ranges assume no unusual licensing obstacle and reasonably prompt responses from you on documents. Stages that depend on an authority, a bank or an insurer are outside our control and we say so.

ModelTypical range to trading What sets the pace
B — Corporate transportShortest Formation and banking, then the speed at which you win the first account
A — Rental fleetMedium Insurance placement and vehicle sourcing, running in parallel with formation
C — Own-brand operatorLongest For-hire authority, which is granted on the authority's timetable, not yours
We control

Preparation quality and pace

  • Speed and completeness of every application we prepare
  • Coordination between professionals so nothing waits on us
  • Documentation, technology configuration and staff onboarding
  • Weekly written progress against the dated stage plan
We do not control
  • How long a licensing authority takes, or whether it grants
  • Whether a bank opens the account, and when
  • What the insurance market quotes on the day
  • Vehicle availability and pricing in the local market
  • How quickly you return signed documents and identity evidence

Every proposal marks these dependencies explicitly. We would rather give you a wider range we can hold to than a confident date we cannot.
